Molly Soda – Forgive Me But I’m Obsessed With This Dance

“Forgive Me But I’m Obsessed With This Dance” is a contemporary reimagining of the dancing plague, a form of mass hysteria that occurred in Europe between the 14th and 17th centuries in which groups of people took to dancing in town squares until they died or collapsed from exhaustion.

Set in a suburban strip mall parking lot, multiple, flattened avatars of the artist gyrate across the screen, creating repetitive gestures that imitate bodies uploaded online, reduced to 15 second loops on our phones. The dancers perform for their cameras, broadcasting while ignoring each other and the gradual decay of their surroundings.
