Shamus Clisset – I Wish I Could Talk to Ponies

I Wish I Could Talk to Ponies is a 3D animation incorporating a digital fire and smoke simulation and rigid body physics for the balloons. The destruction of the world trade center in 2001 happened just a few months after the artist moved to New York City, where he still lives and works. In the years since, the very real and impactful events of 9-11 have been remixed and diluted through throw-away meme culture and conspiracy websites, abstracted beyond recognition and away from any meaningful reaction.

This fragmentation casts a veil over our understanding of the reality of those events and their consequences. In a dark-humor reflection on this confused state, the two birthday candles depicted burn ferociously, while attempts at blowing them out to make a wish only fan the flames and spread the smoke.

Tldr: Dank birthday dreams can't melt steel beams...
