Trulee Hall – SexyTime Rock Variations

Trulee Hall’s SexyTime Rock Variations examines the nuances between a sexual experience and the performance of sexiness. This series features a multimedia installation and two discrete video works, each featuring Hall’s structure of eight different women and their color-corresponding rock sculptures, based on the fish tank rocks that served as Hall’s initial inspiration.

For each woman, Hall played a meditative recording of herself prompting the performers to interact with their rock in sensual and endearing gestures. The artist united the resulting eight performances in an installation of eight channels, framed together and positioned on a camouflage wall speckled with fish tank rocks.

Hall also translated the performances into two editioned video works. In SexyTime Rock Variations (Version 1), Hall synchronizes the videos on the same timeline, but in different frames. Version 1 features the artist’s original music, which also serves as environmental sound for the installation of SexyTime.

In SexyTime Rock Variations (Version 2), Hall combines clips from each performance into a single track video, paired with the instructional recording that guided each woman. Version 2 offers an intimate view into the relationship between artist and performer, while Version 1 illustrates the patterns and differences across eight different interpretations of Hall’s direction.
