Susanne Wiegner – the lonely centre in the lonely circle

The film draws a line from Heinrich von Kleist's essay "Sentiments before Friedrich's Seascape" about Caspar David Friedrich's painting "The Monk by the Sea" to our today's world. The endlessly reproducible pictures are part of our life, they are where we are. The modern human being before the screen is more than ever – as Kleist wrote – "the lonely centre in the lonely circle".
