Heath Franco – Three Cells

THREE CELLS is part of an ongoing body of work by Franco that delves into materiality, the analogue physicality of ‘real world’ matter and imagines human-like, camouflaged lifeforms that may exist within the apparently inanimate.

The three environs presented in THREE CELLS: Leafycell, Carpetcell and Papercell, were shot on the same video set structure, redressed for each scene with each materially distinct ‘expanded costume’ shared by the life form existing within.

The body of work seeks to blur distinctions between figure and background, between the animated and inanimate, between the living and the dead and is influenced by discoveries through quantum physics that revealed subatomic particles behave differently when being observed.
