Maurice Van Es

<p>Maurice van Es (1984) uses photography to make personal books for himself. He created a book of his mother, father, brother, which resulted in the bookcase “Now will not be with us forever”, a goodbye to his time in his parental house.</p><p></p> <p>In 2016 he started a video archive with films made with his mobile phone. He made a film about each of his friends and created an encyclopedic archive were films are sorted under simple categories like the sea, the moon, trees, animals and sunsets. With his book project “Rooms of Now” he portrays houses by photographing details in someones house. These books are published in edition of one, specially made for whoever asks him to make a book.</p><p></p> <p>Maurice van Es studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and was a resident at De Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam between 2016-2018. His work has been shown at Art Rotterdam and Fondazione Prada (IT) and is part of the collections of ING, Boijmans van Beuningen and the MoMA Library (USA).</p>
