Rachel Maclean

Rachel Maclean’s videos and photos are often exhibited alongside props, costumes, sculpture and painting. The scenes she depicts slip between history and imagined futures, creating artificially saturated visions that are both nauseatingly positive and cheerfully grotesque. Within her videos, Maclean merges the visual aesthetics of The Dollar Store, Youtube, Manga, Hieronymus Bosch and High Renaissance painting with MTV style editing techniques.

Recent solo exhibitions include Native Animals, Arsenal Contemporary NYC, USA; solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Winterthur, Switzerland; Please, Sir…, Gus Fisher Gallery, University of Auckland, New Zealand; The Lion and The Unicorn, The National Gallery, London, England; solo exhibition at KWM Arts Centre, Beijing, China; Spite Your Face, Chapter, Cardiff, Wales; solo exhibition at Zabludowicz Collection, London, England; Just B Yourself, Dublin City Art Gallery, Dublin, Ireland; New Worlds, State of Concept, Athens, Greece; and Over the rainbow, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
