For this year’s exhibition the curatorial collective GOOD TO KNOW.FYI showcases art in the dynamic and unconventional setting of Beaches Dive Bar.

BETA FISH replaces television screens typically used for viewing sports with video artworks selected from the Daata’s extensive archive alongside site-responsive artworks throughout the bar. The exhibition explores themes common to the social and environmental landscape of beaches.

Drawing from a lifestyle perpetuated in coastal cities, works by Helen Benigson, Scott Reeder, Chloe Wise, Georgie Roxxby Smith, Takeshi Murata and Antonia Wright reflect relatable ideas on self worth, status quo and societal pressures with a time-stamp.

Hector Zamora’s videos hinge on problematic issues pertaining to the colonization of beaches and tropical environments, whereas Thiago Martins de Melo’s work paints a full narrative of this reality. Works by George Barber, Tin Ojeda, Jillian Mayer, Penny Siopis, Jon Rafman and Antoinette Zwirchmayr present the Self within a coastal environment, whilst suggesting a pending catastrophic doom.

Tuomas A. Laitinen and Zoe Marden in turn, both shift forms depicting the science of life and oceanic organisms and Keiken takes us into a dreamy landscape of a preferred escapist metaverse. Jacolby Satterwhite’s work finalizes the narrative of civilization’s trajectory into this futuristic realm.

Site-specific artworks are presented by Eduoard NG, Kelly Breeze and Autumn Casey.

Eduoard NG explores the ironic duality of nature and the self by creating a scent installation of Miami Beach ocean water mixed with the commercial fragrance “Ocean” by Michael Kors. While Autumn Casey and Kelly Breeze present artworks directly related to Beaches dive bar.
